N.Y. Gov. Cuomo vetoes bill allowing more federal judges to officiate at weddings – because they might be Trump nominees

New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo has vetoed a bill that would have allowed all federal judges to officiate at weddings in the state, saying that some judges should not be allowed to do so because they might have been nominated to the bench by President Donald Trump.

The measure, which would have mostly expanded the authority to certain out-of-state federal jurists, had passed the state Legislature with overwhelming bipartisan support and was not considered controversial. But Cuomo, a Democrat, explained his veto: “President Trump does not embody who we are as New Yorkers.”
