TSSAA Board of Control votes to delay state basketball tournaments

The TSSAA Board of Control voted unanimously on Tuesday afternoon to delay, not cancel the TSSAA state basketball tournaments. The board will reevaluate if the tournaments can be played after the eight-week suspension they are currently working under.

The girls state tournaments were suspended last week after the quarterfinals due to the outbreak of COVID-19. The boys tournaments were supposed to be played this week before the suspension took place.

TSSAA executive director Bernard Childress said that the Tennessee Department of Health and the CDC were involved on advising the TSSAA on how to handle to the situation and how the virus would affect the basketball tournaments and plan moving forward.
