As Coronavirus Testing Ramps Up, Labs Struggle To Keep Up

From New York to California, coronavirus testing is expanding, even as wait times for results last days. But states are aggressively pushing to test even more.

For example, New York is starting to test nursing home workers twice weekly.

But with results taking up to 72 hours, workers might stay in facilities for days without knowing they have the virus.

Over the weekend, the U.S. testing rate increased to over 4,000 a day for the first time ever.

As companies add drive-thru test sites across the country, it doesn’t appear test result delays will get better anytime soon. Officials say they’re trying to combat the problem, but how?
