The House Judiciary Committee, which is controlled by Democrats, on Thursday asked the Justice Department to investigate police conduct in the wake of several recent killings of African Americans.

Chair Jerrold Nadler (D-N.Y.) and other Democrats on the panel said in a letter to Attorney General William Barr that the killings of George Floyd, who died after a white officer kneeled on his neck, and Breonna Taylor, who was fatally shot in her Kentucky apartment, suggested a possible “pattern or practice of unconstitutional conduct” by police.

“Public trust in the blind administration of justice is being seriously tested by recent high-profile killings of African Americans,” Nadler wrote.

The FBI has launched investigations into three recent incidents, including Floyd’s killing.
