US Senate candidates Bill Hagerty, Manny Sethi undergo COVID-19 testing

One day before voters head to the polls for Tennessee’s primary election and days after an attendee at a political event in East Tennessee tested positive for COVID-19, the top Republicans in the U.S. Senate race announced they would get tested.

GOP U.S. Senate candidates Dr. Manny Sethi and Bill Hagerty, who have spent months campaigning while shaking hands, holding indoor events and not wearing masks, said Wednesday they would get tested for COVID-19.

The dual announcements on Wednesday came after Hamilton County health officials said an attendee at a July 31 Republican dinner attended by both candidates had tested positive. The local department recommended anyone who attended the event to get tested and monitor their symptoms.

Shortly after the announcement, Sethi said on Twitter he would get tested.
