Shelby County Dems Choose Candidate for 30th Dist. Senate Seat

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (FOX13) – The Shelby County Democrat Party’s executive committee decided Monday night who will be on the ballot to replace State Senator Jim Kyle.

They didn’t have to look to far, as Kyle’s wife, Sara, will be the nominee.

Sara Kyle, a former Tennessee Regulatory Authority Commissioner, was chosen by two votes over former State Senator Beverly Marrero.

Former City Councilwoman Carol Chumney withdrew from consideration before voting began.

The seat was vacated by Jim Kyle, the Senate Minority Leader, when he was elected to Chancery Court’s Part II seat.
