Hey Democrats, This Plan Isn’t Working

By Erick-Woods Erickson

After recent polls from The New York Times, Wall Street Journal, Bloomberg, and CNN suggest that Donald Trump resoundingly defeats Joe Biden next year, Democrats are telling themselves that voters will ultimately return to Biden when they are reminded of Donald Trump’s past.

However, the same party that claims Donald Trump is an authoritarian has instigated a nationwide crime wave by electing progressive district attorneys across the country who refuse to prosecute criminals. The Biden White House has made this inextricably worse by refusing to secure the border as fentanyl remains the number one cause of death for Americans under 45.

The authoritarianism of the left is nothing new. Just a few years ago as draconian COVID lockdowns had shuttered small businesses and barred churches from meeting, Democratic governors and mayors granted anti-science exceptions for planned protests following the death of George Floyd. Infamously, New York City’s Bill de Blasio refused to deploy police to manage the protestors resulting in massive damage.

While Democrats love to point to Republicans as the election deniers, Democrats pioneered this tactic claiming election machines rigged George Bush’s 2004 victory. In 2016 Democrats redeployed the same tactic claiming Putin and the Russians helped elect Donald Trump by purchasing a few thousand dollars worth of Facebook ads. Then in 2018, Stacey Abrams refused to concede her loss to Brian Kemp claiming she was the rightfully elected governor of Georgia.

What Democrats are unable or unwilling to accept is that voters intuitively understand that Donald Trump has authoritarian tendencies but believe that Democrats are no better. Faced with higher prices, an unsecured border, international turmoil, and a President who literally can’t stay awake, voters would rather support the guy who makes them feel safe.
