The Fate of A Pagan Nation

Wow!

The subject titled article was sent to me by a dear friend, and is 100% true.

Wish I’d written it, but am glad someone did, because these things need to be said.

It won’t make you feel good; please read it anyway. The bright side for those of us who are called by His Name and according to His purpose, is that one of two things will happen in the next few years.

Either America will repent and be spared, or she will be destroyed.

Liberal minded people will call me un-American for saying so (though it’s precisely the lack of honest national self-assessment that is the problem), but she deserves the latter.

Only by God’s grace has He relented from laying us absolutely desolate. Isaiah 60:12 says “ For the nation and kingdom that will not serve thee shall perish; yea, those nations shall be utterly wasted.

Why we might be so arrogant as to believe we are immune from His judgment is startling. And lest we consider ourselves, as a country, not as bad as Sodom and Gomorrah, those sexually immoral & degenerate cities He reduced to smoking ruins in Genesis 19:28-29, consider Ezekiel 16:49-50, which says (emphasis mine)…:

“Behold, this was the iniquity of thy sister Sodom, pride, fullness of bread, and abundance of idleness was in her and in her daughters, neither did she strengthen the hand of the poor and needy. And they were haughty, and committed abomination before me: therefore I took them away as I saw good.

Notice the abomination, which we all like to focus on, while undeniably a major contributing factor in Sodom’s fate, is mentioned last, and then almost as an afterthought;Â meaning that the things mentioned prior to it are of no lesser consequence.

Pride and America are almost synonymous.

Nothing wrong with well-placed pride, if it’s balanced with some humility to keep it from growing into conceit.

Fullness of bread.

We are an obese country, both literally and figuratively. How many people who clamor for a national day of prayer would be willing to participate in a personal day of fasting to accompany it?

Our penchant for round the clock gluttony is exploited by a major fast food restaurant’s campaign for late night snacks called Fourth Meal. And I don’t mean a Ramadan type fast – even the most undisciplined person can skip a couple of meals knowing he’ll be feasting for dinner.

That is about as much of a fast as would be abstaining from alcohol awaiting drunken nights of revelry.

Aside from the health benefits of a properly conducted (water only) fast, there is a distinct spiritual impact. With apologies to the writer of the Proverbs, when I read 29:18, which says “Where there is no vision, the people perish”, I want to add the comment “where there is television, the people perish.”

There is certainly a place for leisure and recreation in the midst of our hyper-stressed lives, but when idleness is abundant, it is unhealthy on all levels….not to mention the abject imbecility of 95% of the programming that is aired.

(“Air” & “programming” being the operative words here.) And strengthening the poor and the needy is the moral imperative of the church as a body, and believers individually, not the government, lest anyone infer this as a sanctioning of socialism.

Not only is “God helps those who help themselves” not in the Bible anywhere, it is mistakenly invoked to rationalize indifference. Please pray for the soul of America, and for the souls of Americans.

Other countries and their people, too, for if God is not a respecter of persons, then He is also not a respecter of nations, as far as I know.

Scriptures says nothing of either heaven or hell accommodating nations, but certainly people of all nations will occupy both…for eternity. If we recoil hearing the occupant of the Oval Office say that America is not a Christian nation, what are we doing to prove him wrong?

Could however many of us among 300 million who are Christians live our lives to such a degree that it would make his comment border on delusional?

The various and sundry calamities that God is visiting upon this country are really demonstrations of His mercy, given that He has the divine prerogative to incinerate us, but would prefer we repent and escape such fate, as did Nineveh in the book of Jonah.
