In honor of “Earth Month” this April, NLC’s Sustainability Program will be hosting a special webinar series highlighting city leadership in sustainability. Elected officials and their staff are playing a critical  role in advancing social, economic and environmental sustainability in their communities.   This series will celebrate their leadership and innovation during this month of heightened environmental awareness.

Beginning on April 9th and going through April 30th, each Tuesday at 2:00 pm ET, NLC will profile a different city in a 30-minute webinar. Cities will present innovative programs, policies or initiatives that have been critical in moving the sustainability conversation forward in their communities.  NLC will spotlight communities of varied geographies and populations, from coastal towns and small suburbs to small and large cities to show the range of innovative efforts taking place. Local Government and Technology: Exploring Distributed Antenna Systems and Small Cell Deployments

NLC, jointly with the National Association of Counties (NACo) and the National Association of Telecommunications Officers and Advisers (NATOA), will be holding a webinar on new technology that may help expand wireless broadband access for your community.  Learn about distributed antenna systems (DAS) and small cell deployments and what these technologies could mean for expansion of wireless broadband in your community. These technologies are increasingly used to provide wireless broadband service in small geographic areas. Cities United: Reducing Violent Deaths Among Black Men and Boys

April, 18, 2013

2:30 p.m. – 3:30 p.m. ET

In this webinar, participants will learn about Cities United, a national effort to reduce violent deaths among African-American males.  The vision of Cities United is that mayors and other municipal leaders across the country will form partnerships with other local officials, community leaders, families, youth, funders, and other stakeholders within their respective cities to champion strategies that reduce violence and violence-related deaths among African-American men and boys.  Cities United intends to raise national awareness, increase the urgency and focus on this critical issue, and provide cities with technical assistance as they develop coalitions and strategies to reduce violence among black men and boys.
