Madison County July Agenda Meeting Will be held this morning July 30, 2017: New taxes will be discussed

The regular meeting of the Madison County Board of Commissioners will be held at the West Tennessee Research and Education Center at 605 Airways Boulevard at the Seminar Room 150 in Jackson Tennessee on Friday June 30, 2017 at 8:30 A. M.

Besides the regular appointments to positions held by both commissioners and private individuals on governing bodies, the meeting will be to held to discuss possible actions to meet the current education budget shortfall of $12,000,000 annually caused by the city of Jackson’s funds mismanagement under the direction of Mayor Jerry Gist and approvals made by the majority members of the city council over the last 10 years.

The 12 million was part of a special option sales tax voted on via public referendum to support the school system. The city mayor and council decided its need was greater than the education system.

Some of the items that will be discussed and voted on will be a resolution fixing the real property tax levy beginning July 1st in order for them to accept the budget for 2017 / 18 fiscal year.
