Update from Congressman David Kustoff

The following was released by the Congressman’s office this week. Just so we have no pretense as to our position on the work the Congressman is doing, we are willing to admit that the Congressman was somewhere near the bottom of the barrel as a Republican candidate. He has yet to do anything in our eyes to change that assessment and with his introduction of the Affordable Mortgage Act we still make that stand. We pray for better things.

Last week, I had the opportunity to vote on major legislation to support our national security and introduce a bill to help first-time and rural homebuyers. I was also glad to meet with West Tennesseans in D.C. and home in the Eighth District.

Strengthening our National Security

Our servicemen and women make the ultimate sacrifice for our security, and I am proud to keep my promise to provide them with the tools they need to safely and efficiently carry out their noble work.

Last Friday, I voted for the FY 2018 National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA), which passed the House by a strong bipartisan vote of 344-81. This bold legislation increases defense spending by ten percent from last year’s level to $696.1 billion.

  • With the goal of maximizing our forces, the $621.5 billion for base spending will answer the Army, Navy and Air Force’s requests for thousands of additional personnel.
  • I am also pleased this increase will allow for well-deserved pay raises and improved health care services for our military.
  • Finally, it modernizes our military equipment and increases missile defense funds by $2.5 billion to help ensure we can protect our homeland from threats posed by long-range missiles.

Easing Burden on First-time and Rural Homebuyers

Owning a home is central to the American Dream. That’s why I introduced legislation to ease the burden on first-time and rural homebuyers.

It was great to be at the Ron Lollar-Bubba Pleasant Fish Fry in Germantown on Saturday.

Lauderdale County

This weekend, I enjoyed joining everyone at the Lauderdale County Tomato Festival to celebrate a great West Tennessee tradition.
