38-year-old firefighter dies in Lawrenceburg blaze

LAWRENCEBURG — A Lawrenceburg firefighter, whose wife is expecting their fourth child in less than a month, died Mondaynight after battling a house fire, Fire Chief Jay Moore said Tuesday.

Jason Dickey, 38, was one of four Lawrenceburg firefighters inside a home at 512 Hood Lakes Road when the roof collapsed around 8 p.m., Moore said.

All four were evacuated and taken to the hospital.

Dickey was an 11-year veteran of the Lawrenceburg Fire Department. Dickey and his wife, Jennifer, have two teenage children and a 2-year-old daughter.

“He was one of the finest firefighters you would ever want to know,” Moore said.

The fire started around 4:30 p.m. Monday at a two-story home about 2.5 miles south of the Lawrence County square.

Around 8 p.m., crews transmitted a “Mayday Emergency” and reported firefighters were trapped as the result of a collapse.

Columbia and Spring Hill Fire Departments were covering the city for Lawrenceburg Fire on Monday night andTuesday morning after the fire.

Funeral services for Dickey were pending Tuesday.
