Construction continues on Highland Roundabout

The greatest joke in the city of Jackson is the roundabout.

When construction on the North Highland Roundabout is completed later this year, it will have a great impact on downtown Jackson, Mayor Jerry Gist said.

“Some people are concerned about not being able to navigate it, but once it’s constructed they will see how efficient a roundabout is, and it will handle the traffic much easier,” Gist said.

You spend millions widening Highland and now you think it should be slowed down…..

The Jackson Sun reports:

Construction began on the Highland Roundabout in February and the project is expected to be completed by October. The roundabout will be between North Highland Avenue and Deaderick Street.

The roundabout — a state and federally funded project — is expected to cost about $3 million and will help ease the traffic congestion in the area, Gist said. The Jackson City Council approved a contract with Ford Construction Company to build the roundabout in September 2017.

The traffic signals at Highland Avenue and Deaderick Street were removed several weeks ago during the initial construction phase, and will not return because the traffic signals are not necessary for the roundabout, Gist said.
