Hackers forged a booming job market

A week doesn’t go by without a major company announcing a data breach. From Sears, to Kmart to Delta to Panera, firms are struggling to keep their servers secure from hackers.

Mounting pressure for better security has pushed up demand for cybersecurity experts that is far outstripping the supply of such skills. And the problem will only get worse in the coming years, reports The Wall Street Journal.

By 2022, there will be 265,000 more data-security jobs than skilled workers, says the report, citing data from consulting firm Frost & Sullivan. This skill mismatch means that compensation in the field has surged, with the median data-security analyst salary around $121,000.
