Citizens Against Government Waste (CAGW) has named Rep. Bennie Thompson (D-Miss.) Porker of the Month for attempting to create taxpayer-funded dorms for well-paid members of Congress. On May 16, Rep. Thompson introduced the “No Couches for Congress Act,” which would ban members of Congress from sleeping Image result for rep. bennie thompsonin their offices while in Washington, D.C. He then proposed converting empty residence halls near the Capitol into “affordable” housing for well-heeled members of Congress, who make $174,000 per year, claiming D.C. housing prices were “prohibitive.” Based on their poor record of dealing with America’s fiscal issues, U.S. Representatives do not deserve another taxpayer-provided perk. Annual spending bills have not been passed on time in 20 years, and the budget has not been balanced in a generation, while the national debt stands at $21 trillion and Congress’s approval rating sits in the mid-teens. For attempting to create another unnecessary public-paid perk for members of Congress, Rep. Thompson is the June Porker of the Month.
