PACs continue to fund attacks in spite of calls to end negative campaigning

(Jackson, TN, July 2018) Chris Todd, candidate for District 73 State Representative, called on Commissioner Jay Bush to return donations made by the political action committee (PAC) of Representative Curtis Johnson, Johnson Victory PAC. This information became public through campaign finance disclosures released July 26th.

“My opponent has made a campaign out of drawing attention to PAC involvement in the local race for State Representative, and taken cover behind negative outside influences in order to attack me and my campaign. Now we see that Commissioner Bush remains heavily tied to an acknowledged player for House Speaker through substantial donations from Representative Curtis Johnson’s PAC, which have been used to fund mailers calling me a ‘negative campaigner.’ Just like signing a pledge against new taxes after voting to raise property taxes, the hypocrisy here is thick,” Todd says.

The Todd campaign has consistently disavowed involvement from Nashville looking to influence the outcome of this campaign through public statements and by returning a PAC donation that came in early in the campaign. The Todd campaign wants to focus on the issues that make this race significant, such as tax reform, the 2nd Amendment, immigration, and government efficiency.

Todd concluded, “The people of District 73 want a Representative who takes a businessman’s experience to Nashville and applies that experience to the issues that affect them. If Commissioner Bush feels the same seriousness about addressing the issues, he will set aside once and for all the issue of PAC involvement by retuning the dirty money and ceasing to play both sides of the coin on PAC involvement.”
