Djokovic wins his third U.S. Open

Novak Djokovic, 31, won the men’s singles title at the U.S. Open on Sunday, beating Juan Martin del Potro 6-3, 7-6, 6-3.

It was Djokovic’s 14th career Grand Slam victory, moving the Serb into a tie with Pete Sampras for the third most major wins of all time. Djokovic is now just three Grand Slim wins behind Rafael Nadal for second place on the all-time list, and six behind Roger Federer’s 20.

It was Djokovic’s second straight Grand Slam win, after his victory at Wimbledon two months ago, and his third U.S. Open title.

It was del Potro’s first Grand Slam singles title run since he won the 2009 U.S. Open when he was just 20.
