Rep. Ilhan Omar defends 2012 tweet accusing Israel of ‘hypnotizing the world’

Well, I suspect this won’t start your week off on a high note. This information is troubling on its face, but also troubling that a member of the US House of Representatives is compiling this kind of record.

Newly elected lawmaker tells CNN there’s a ‘difference between criticizing a military action by a government and attacking a particular people of faith’
US Rep. Ilhan Omar defended her 2012 tweet in which she accused Israel of “evil doings” and said that Israel had “hypnotized the world.”

“Those unfortunate words were the only words I could think about expressing at that moment,” Omar, a Minnesota Democrat, told CNN’s Christiane Amanpour in an interview aired Wednesday night.

The tweet, which said that “Israel has hypnotized the world, may Allah awaken the people and help them see the evil doings of Israel,” came in reaction to Israel’s November 2012 operation against Hamas in Gaza.

Ilhan Omar’s Tax Filings Draw Accusations of Irregularities

A state investigation into Representative Ilhan Omar’s misuse of campaign funds uncovered discrepancies in her tax filings as well, alleging that she filed jointly with a man she was living with while still married to her previous husband.

The Minnesota Campaign Finance and Public Disclosure Board stated in a report that the Democratic congresswoman filed joint tax returns with Ahmed Hirsi for two years despite still being legally married to another man, Ahmed Nur Said Elmi. Minnesota prohibits filing joint returns unless the two parties are legally married to each other.

Omar and Hirsi had two children together without being legally married, and separated in 2008. She legally married Elmi in 2009 but later reconciled with Hirsi and had another child with him in 2012. In 2017, she divorced Elmi, and in 2018 she married Hirsi legally for the first time.

In the meantime, however, Omar filed joint tax returns with Hirsi in 2014 and 2015 while still legally married to Elmi.

State Board Orders Ilhan Omar to Reimburse Campaign for Misspent Funds

Representative Ilhan Omar (D., Minn.) spent thousands of dollars of campaign funds on personal expenses in 2016 and 2017 when she was serving in the Minnesota state legislature, the state’s Campaign Finance and Public Disclosure Board revealed Thursday.

The board ordered Omar to reimburse her former campaign committee for $3,500 in personal accounting and travel expenses, and levied a $500 civil penalty against her for misspending the funds.

The findings are the result of a complaint filed by Republican state representative Steve Drazkowski, which alleged that Omar used campaign funds to cover the legal costs associated with her recent divorce. The board found that Omar did use $2,250 in campaign funds to cover legal fees, but they were unrelated to her divorce.

Trespassing, multiple traffic violations – and oh, she married her brother.

By Robert Spencer

The striking evidence that Minnesota’s notorious Representative Ilhan Omar married her own brother in an apparent case of immigration fraud is finally making its way into the mainstream, albeit amid a great deal of obfuscation and outright disinformation. However, that curious case is not the only instance in which Omar has been found on the wrong side of the law. The controversial Congressman has a lengthy record of utter contempt for the rule of law, of which she is now ostensibly a guardian.

Omar was recently ordered to pay back thousands of dollars of campaign funds that she spent on personal expenses. According to National Review, Minnesota’s Campaign Finance and Public Disclosure Board “ordered Omar to reimburse her former campaign committee for $3,500 in personal accounting and travel expenses, and levied a $500 civil penalty against her for misspending the funds.”

Nor is that all: Minnesota’s Alpha News reports that Omar “was arrested in 2013 for trespassing and booked at Hennepin County Jail ‘to prevent further criminal conduct,’ according to a newly uncovered police report.”

Omar had gone, along with a large crowd of other Somalis, to the Hotel Ivy, where former Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud was staying. Alpha News notes that “according to the police report, hotel staff requested police assistance in clearing the lobby, saying that anyone without a hotel room key was not welcome on the premises and needed to leave immediately. The officer handling the incident said the majority of people who were asked to leave were compliant. However, Omar, when approached, was ‘argumentative’ and refused to leave.”
