Can’t Get Any Blunter Than This

Image result for blunt objectFor all my talk I’m actually pretty straightforward; if I’m wrong, then prove it and I’ll change my mind. However, if you can’t prove me wrong, don’t expect me to stop proclaiming what I believe to be the truth just because it offends you or threatens your beliefs. If the truth frightens, or offends you, then that’s your problem, not mine.

What is it about the truth that frightens so many people that they would rather live their lives believing a lie than accept it? Is it the fact that to accept the truth would mean they would first have to admit that they had been wrong about something? I’m probably wrong in the vicinity of a hundred times a week; and if you don’t believe me just ask my wife.

There is a quote that floats around the internet from time to time that states, “Tis better to remain silent and thought of as a fool than it is to open your mouth and prove them right.” You know, it’s a miracle my blood pressure is as low as it is with all the nonsense and garbage I hear coming out of some people’s mouths; oh, and my BP was 122/68 the last time they checked it.

Yet whenever someone is caught speaking absurdities by someone armed with the truth, they become very defensive; insulting even. Maybe von Loon was right when he said, “Any formal attack on ignorance is bound to fail because the masses are always ready to defend their most precious possession – their ignorance.” It’s almost as if the truth is irrelevant; the only thing that matters is how people feel about an issue.

There is a T-shirt I wear from time to time that has a photo of David Duchovny as FBI Agent Fox Mulder, with the saying, “TRUST NO ONE.” While I wouldn’t go so far as to say that you should actually trust nobody, I would say it is wise to not blindly trust everyone and everything you hear either. I trust my wife implicitly, and I have a small, (VERY SMALL), circle of friends who I trust to tell me the truth. Other than that, I question everything I hear; and if I find that people are speaking untruths I call them on it; and that pisses a lot of people off.

As a quick example, I have been called racist and prejudiced because of my displaying the Confederate Battle Flag on T-shirts and, more recently, in the form of a tattoo on my right forearm. Yet when I provide historical facts that prove that their idol, Abraham Lincoln, was far more racist than I could ever hope to be, they become upset.

I hear people say that they are patriots, then they turn around and support candidates or measures that restrict the rights of those they disagree with. A true patriot would defend the rights of everyone to their last breath; even those they disagreed with. There’s a saying that explains that quite well, “I may not agree with what you say, but I will defend to the death your right to say it.”

But people mistakenly think that just because they are entitled to an opinion that their opinion should not be questioned or debated. I think only a coward fears an honest and open debate over their opinions, because they know, deep down, that they cannot support it with any real facts or evidence.

I, on the other hand, love a good debate; so long as the person I’m debating remains civil and sticks to presenting facts to counter my position. I’ve been proven wrong many times, and I haven’t cried about it; I did what any person having even a thimbleful of integrity would do, I changed my opinion to conform to the facts.

I may be unique, or at least a part of a dying breed, but to me the truth is all that matters in life. If you can’t trust those around you to tell you the truth, what’s the use in having any friends or acquaintances? On the flip side of that, a true friend will tell you when you’re wrong, and help you in seeking out the truth.

I don’t claim to be right 100% of the time, and I would hope that when I am wrong that someone will point it out to me so that I can revise my thoughts on whatever it is I was wrong about. At the same time, when someone tells me that I’m wrong, I don’t take their word for it; I research the matter for myself until I discern the truth.

I have never asked anyone to simply accept that what I say in these commentaries is true. In fact, I fervently pray that people do question me; but at the same time I would hope that they also seek out the truth on their own. It is only by questioning things that we can arrive at the truth; otherwise we may as well all put on blindfolds and blindly obey the orders people shout at us and live like slaves.

The world is full of liars who seek to steer you astray and deprive you of your freedom. The schools lie to our children when they replace real history with that revisionist garbage that passes for history today. The media lies to us when they give a biased report or withhold certain facts from a news story. Our politicians lie to us, and we support them because they are better than the ones the other party has to offer.

Yet a lie is a lie is a lie; and it doesn’t matter who is telling it, the end result is that you are not being given the truth. The sad thing is that you believe the lies you have been told, and you repeat them to others as if they are the truth. That is not critical thinking, it is parroting what you have been told; or to use a better term, indoctrination.

Patriotism is not blindly defending your government; in fact it is the reverse. Mark Twain defined patriotism as, “…supporting your country all of the time and your government when it deserves it.” If you believe everything you are told, all the way from your educators to the media to your elected officials, then you are a fool; for they routinely lie to you.

Let me tell you something else, and this may sting a bit, if you blindly believe these lies without questioning them there is a passage in the Bible you should read, “Ye are of your father the devil, and the lusts of your father ye will do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and abode not in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaketh a lie, he speaketh of his own, for he is a liar and the father of it.”
The Bible also says, “And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.”

But that’s only if you seek out the truth, and don’t reject it when someone cares enough to present it to you. God rejoices in the truth, while the devil takes pleasure in lies. So whose children are you, God’s or Satans? The Bible says, “Ye shall know them by their fruits…” So regardless of whether people want to accept it, their attitude towards the truth will be their judge.
