Hi All, It looks like they are ‘going for gold’ in Olympia, to try and pass more bad bills.
I can’t list all of the bills, mentioned below, but you can go to the bill Page, by clicking on the bill numbers, underlined in blue, under “A few of our Action Items:” below. It will open the bill page. On the bill page, to your right, in dark green, you have choices to ‘send a comment…’ or ‘sign up to testify’ which can be written, online or in person. Choosing to testify in writing is a good choice, if you miss submitting an ‘oppose – CON,’ or ‘support – PRO’ choice if you miss the deadline to comment, because you still have 24 hours to testify in writing, from the time that the bill was heard. If you don’t want to write much, you can simply write, ‘Please oppose this bill’ or ‘Please support this bill.’ If you are commenting or testifying on more than one bill, leave one of the pages open in your browser, and on the next bill, you won’t have to fill in everything all over again, for your name, address, etc. It will appear in a drop-down menu under the line you are filling out. If you create an account on the leg/wa/gov Website, it will automatically fill out the top portion of any bill om which you are commenting/testifying. It will also list all of the bills on which you have commented or testified, in case you can’t remember if you did or didn’t. Currently, I am over 300 comments/testimonies in my list. O^% Just click on the words, “Log in” on the upper right of a bill, and it will ask if you want to create an account? Once you do, at the top right of the bills on which you are working, it will say, “Sign in History,” or “Log out.” The Sign in History, will show you how many and which bills on which you have addressed. I sometimes have to check to see if I already have weighed in or not, so the history is handy. (:
I highly recommend that you sign up for Nancy Churchill’s Website. She will teach you how to use her Website and how to use the leg/wa/gov Website as well. You will have access to the spreadsheet she does. I have been able to copy off portions of it to send you, and once you sign up for her Website, you can copy and save the ‘address’ of the 2024 spreadsheet to your browser, so you don’t have to log on to Nancy’s Website. You just look at the bottom of the spreadsheet and select the day you need. Tonight, I will select Friday, 2/23, and starting at the top, which are the bills that will be heard at 8 AM, and work down the spreadsheet. Usually when you see an orange block, you are done. Again, do what you can. You can read through and only comment on the ones that concern you. We were able to stop the property tax increase, just by the sheer numbers of people who testified or commented against it. It is ‘strength in numbers’ and’ the squeaking wheel that gets the grease.’ 🙂
I have received emails from representatives who are not from my district, thanking me for weighing in. I know it is discouraging to be outnumbered in Olympia, but if we all take some time to at least comment, it really helps our representatives stop some of the horrible bills we see that the Dems are trying to push through. They are hoping that we don’t notice, or won’t take the time to get involved, because it makes it easier for them to pass bills that we don’t want, so thank you to each of you who are getting involved. I am just thankful that I can do this from home, and not have to go to Olympia to testify on each bill. 🙂 Brad at FPIW is looking at creating emails with an easy way to address the bills in Olympia, as well. I will pass along any updates he sends along, if you don’t get his emails. Again, if you want to be taken off of my list, just let me know?
Thank you!
Carol
