What We Saw at a Mostly Peaceful, Slightly Fiery Anti-Netanyahu Protest in DC

What began with a few “man on the street” interviews at a pro-Palestine rally quickly descended into a witness to violence, arson, and unmistakable vitriol against America and Israel. 

It all unfolded at a rally and march in protest of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s visit to Washington on Wednesday to address a joint session of Congress. 

Thousands of people clogged the streets of Capitol Hill to make their voices heard in protest of the war in Gaza, of who they called “war criminal” Netanyahu, and of America’s supposed “funding of genocide.” 

Protesters swarmed Union Station to tear down the three American flags that stand tall outside the transit hub and replace them with Palestinian flags. 

The American flags were burned on the ground while crowds cheered on the act.

We asked a group of white men wearing kaffiyehs and other Palestinian grab whether they were there to perform a “citizen’s arrest” of Netanyahu. We had seen hundreds of premade signs calling the Israeli prime minister a “war criminal.”
