(Chuck Muth) – Last night the Keystone Corporation held its annual dinner featuring Dr. Ben Carson, former HUD Secretary under President Trump, as the keynote speaker and honoring Richie McDonald with the 2024 Monte Miller Economic Freedom Award.
The group also took time to recognize and applaud David Gibbs, George Harris and three tables of Repair the Vote volunteers for successfully getting the photo ID question on November’s ballot. HUGE win for the good guys.
It was a star-studded event for pro-business candidates and elected officials, including Gov. Joe Lombardo, U.S. Senate candidate Sam Brown, congressional candidate John Lee, state senate candidates Jill Douglass and John Ellison (all the way down from Elko!), state assembly candidates April Arndt, Brandon Davis, Annette Dawson Owens and Rebecca Edgeworth, plus Clark County commission candidate April Becker and Clark County Commissioner Jim Gibson.
Other pillars of the business community in attendance: Monte Miller, Pauline Lee, Lorraine Hunt-Bono, Dan Tuntland, Darren Wilson, Donnie Gibson, Brett Sutton, Zach Walkerlieb, Brian Hardy, Terry Graves, Tony Grady, and…I really shouldn’t be doing this, because I know I’m going to miss recognizing so many others who were there.
But trust me, they were all A-listers…including John Tsarpalas and his folks from Nevada Policy Research Institute, the premier conservative think-tank in the state. (I know they’ve officially shortened their name to Nevada Policy, but old habits die hard.)
And a special thank you to Kevin Kean who invited me to sit at his table with a wonderful group of guests that included Lt. Gov. Stavros Anthony, State Controller Andy Matthews, and Assembly District 8 candidate Kelly Chapman.
Oh, what a night!
And to wrap up on a “It’s a Small, Small World” note, one of Mr. Kean’s guests at our table was a gentleman named Stan Rapp. He’s new to Vegas after retiring as a lobbyist in Pennsylvania.
Well, heck. I know a Pennsylvania lobbyist, Charlie Gerow, from my days as executive director of the American Conservative Union back in DC. And, yup, mutual friend. We had some fun texting back and forth with Charlie during dinner reliving the “old days.”
Anyway, Keystone is a great pro-biz organization – unlike, you know, that Las Vegas Chamber you-scratch-my-back-I’ll-scratch-yours gaggle of anti-small business sellouts. You should join.
