Did you see this in the news?
Two young students were heckled and shoved for shouting, “Christ is King!” and “Jesus is Lord!” at a presidential campaign event.
The event speaker, a presidential candidate, even told the two students, “You guys are at the wrong rally.”
This story is just one example of the decline in civility in our country. Not only is the lack of civility downright rude…
It’s also dangerous.
We’ve had multiple assassination attempts on a presidential candidate this year alone.
I’d like to share Pat Sajak’s commencement speech, calling for civility, with you. You may know Mr. Sajak as the recently retired host of Wheel of Fortune, but I know him as the chairman of Hillsdale’s Board of Trustees.
Mr. Sajak gave this talk back in the spring. But his words continue to ring true. But most importantly, his speech is a reminder that the education you help provide—whether here on our Michigan campus or through Imprimis, our free online courses, and our K-12 initiatives—does so much.
As he told the class of ’24, “Your Hillsdale education…will make this country and world a better place.”
