Officials to raise speed limit for road in west Madison County

The wiggle room of local politics

MADISON COUNTY, Tenn. — The speed limit for one local road is being raised following a traffic study.

The Madison County Highway Department and Madison County Sheriff’s Department conducted a traffic study on Lower Brownsville Road in West Madison County. This came after many years of complaints from residents. Police found that residents were prone to speeding which created higher risked for accidents. The Lower Brownsville Road speed limit will be raised from 30 miles per hour to 40.

“First it was, you know, people flying down the road. They were going too fast and then we came back with the 30 mile per hour speed limit — speed zone, thought that area, that it was too slow. So, that was the purpose of the traffic study,” said Jeff Wall, Madison County Commissioner.

Wall also said that the changes will happen before the end of the year.
