Hundreds of workers and activists rallied at the Colorado state capitol Tuesday, urging lawmakers to update what they describe as outdated labor laws.
A coalition called Colorado Worker Rights United, along with supporting legislators, announced plans to introduce the Worker Protection Act, which would simplify union formation and strengthen worker protections.
Supporters say the proposal will expand workers’ rights in Colorado, citing a new report by the Colorado Fiscal Institute linking strong unions to economic growth and improved job quality.
Opponents, including the Colorado Chamber of Commerce, contend that existing laws already balance the interests of workers and businesses and warn that the proposed changes could raise costs and harm the state’s economic competitiveness.
