The College Football Playoff’s first round continues today with a tripleheader featuring No. 11 seed SMU at No. 6 seed Penn State, No. 5 seed Texas hosting No. 12 seed Clemson, and No. 8 seed Ohio State taking on No. 9 seed Tennessee at Ohio Stadium this evening.
First round winners will advance to the quarterfinals to face the top four seeds: Oregon, Georgia, Boise State, and Arizona State, with one game on Dec. 31 and three games on Jan. 1.
Penn State, Texas, and Ohio State are the favorites to join Notre Dame in moving into the quarterfinals to be played at the historic Fiesta Bowl, Peach Bowl, Rose Bowl, and Sugar Bowl venues.
ESPN has the media rights to the College Football Playoff after signing a six year, $7.8 billion contract, or $1.3 billion annually.
