Tennessee Republican Sen. Marsha Blackburn introduced a legislative package last week comprising four bills aimed at stopping human trafficking.
A part of the package is the SAVE Girls Act, which seeks to establish a federal grant program to combat the smuggling and trafficking of children and young women.
The End Child Trafficking Now Act would impose sentences on those convicted of trafficking minors to up to 10 years in prison.
Blackburn’s initiative aligns with National Human Trafficking Awareness Day, observed on Saturday, Jan. 11, and National Human Trafficking Prevention Month, recognized throughout January.
