On the outside, incoming Republican Assembly Minority Leader Greg Hafen is enjoying a honeymoon as legislators prepare for the upcoming session.
Liberal blubber-blogger Jon Ralston is writing glowingly about him…but we all know how much Ralston LOVES weak Republicans.
And I’m already hearing grumbling that some Carson City insiders think a mistake was made in choosing Hafen as the top dog and that GOP Assembly Whip Toby Yurek should have been chosen instead.
Some are reportedly going around Hafen and talking directly with Yurek, thinking Yurek is actually stronger and can get things done. And there’s talk about positioning Yurek to step in and take over the caucus mid-session if/when Hafen stumbles.
I’ve heard crazier talk in previous sessions (remember 2015?). Buckle up. It’s gonna be a bumpy ride.
