American tennis player Madison Keys pulled off a shocking upset to win the Australian Open on Saturday, defeating top-ranked Aryna Sabalenka in three sets.
Keys, the 19th seed, played her best tennis to win 6-3, 2-6, 7-5 in just over two hours against the two-time reigning champion. Sabalenka responded to the loss by smashing her racket and briefly leaving the court before returning.
Once a rising star in tennis after she reached the U.S. Open Final in 2017, Keys acknowledged that she needed “lots of therapy” to let go of expectations and negative emotions and unlock her best tennis.
