Vice President Vance delivered a pointed speech at the Munich Security Conference, urging European leaders to consider how their nations have drifted away from critical values.
”Free speech, I fear, is in retreat in Europe,” Vance said. He cited German police raids over alleged hate speech by anti-feminists, arrests of anti-abortion activists in the U.K., and the cancellation of Romanian elections.
Vance also spoke about Europe’s mass migration problems and its governments’ refusal to work with anti-immigration political parties.
The VP said there is “a new sheriff in town in Washington” and that if European leaders ignore their voters, then America can’t help them.
The room was mostly silent as Vance delivered the speech, and the European response after the speech was just as icy.
