You may have seen this on the evening news last night but a private aerospace company has pulled off the first fully successful commercial moon landing as Firefly Aerospace’s Blue Ghost lander touched down on the lunar surface early Sunday morning.
The lander carried 10 experiments to the moon for NASA, which paid Firefly $101 million for the moon delivery and $44 million for the technology on board.
Blue Ghost’s upright landing eclipsed aerospace company Intuitive Machines’ lander that touched down on the lunar surface last year but tipped over on contact.
Blue Ghost shared images it took during and after the touchdown, including one of Earth “rising” above the moon.
