NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) — A woman was arrested after she was accused of forging a check worth thousands of dollars to remain enrolled at Tennessee State University, according to the Metro Nashville Police Department.
According to court documents, 23-year-old Starr Branch told TSU bursar staff that a check from “Indiana Transport” — totaling $36,741.07 — for the spring 2025 semester was mailed to the school’s collection agency, but was delivered to the wrong address.
She allegedly said a replacement check would be mailed to the school and requested that a hold on her enrollment status be lifted, which was approved, allowing her to remain on campus.
Weeks later, the funds were not distributed and the bursar’s office was notified by Indiana Transport that the company had not issued or authorized the check, according to court documents.
Branch reportedly told officers her father provided the check, but she was unable to provide evidence or contact information for him.
She was charged Tuesday with felony worthless check over $10,000 and less than $60,000, and felony forgery over $10,000 and less than $60,000. She was booked into jail on a $30,000 bond.
