I keep hearing concerns about the “dangerous precedent” Trump is setting by targeting Harvard’s tax-exempt status. The worry goes: What happens when Democrats are back in power?
With all due respect, that’s just dumb.
Will the Democrats go after the tax-exempt status of Tea Party groups like Lois Lerner did? Will the Democrats go after Hillsdale College, despite taking no federal funding, for failing to push DEI like the Obama administration did? Will the Democrats sue nuns for refusing to pay for abortions like the Obama administration did?
Spare me the talk about Trump setting some dangerous precedent. All he’s done is take the precedent Democrats already set—and apply it more broadly. If they want to put an end to this kind of political warfare, they can. But let’s be honest: they don’t.
