Ruth Buzzi, who rose to fame as a comedy sketch player on Rowan & Martin’s Laugh-In, died on Thursday at age 88.
Buzzi was best known for playing the bitter, frumpy Gladys Ormphby during the show’s run from 1968 to 1973—a character famous for whacking people over the head with her purse when they annoyed her.
She also had several voice acting roles, including Suzie Kabloozie on Sesame Street from 1993 to 2006, and Mama Bear on The Berenstain Bears.
