Former FBI Director James Comey is under investigation for an Instagram post featuring seashells spelling out the numbers “8647,” which federal officials say could be read as a threat to kill President Trump.
Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem said the numbers are a reference to “86”—meaning “get rid of” or “remove”—and “47,” a reference to Trump as the 47th president.
“Disgraced former FBI Director James Comey just called for the assassination of @POTUS Trump,” Noem wrote on X. “DHS and Secret Service is investigating this threat and will respond appropriately.” Comey deleted the Instagram photo, which he described as a “shell formation,” and said he was unaware that people associated the numbers 8647 with violence. President Trump said Comey “was calling for the assassination of the president.”
