CU Student Death Ruled Suicide

The Boulder County Coroner’s Office released its findings in the death of Megan Trussell, an 18-year-old University of Colorado Boulder student found dead in Boulder Canyon on Feb. 15.

In a press release Tuesday, the coroner’s office said Trussell died from toxic exposure to amphetamines and hypothermia, ruling the cause of death a suicide.

Trussell’s parents, Vanessa Diaz and Joe Trussell, dispute the findings. They argue other factors in the case—such as her missing phone and purse, both found miles away—suggest a different cause. Though the official investigation is over, the family says they plan to have a private autopsy done and may hire a private investigator.
