Even though Congress has already allocated over $7 billion for the building of electric vehicle (EV) chargers all across the United States, there still has not been a single new charger built anywhere.
As reported by Breitbart, $7.5 billion was designated solely for the construction of EV charging stations as part of the infrastructure bill that was passed in 2021 and signed into law by Joe Biden. The bill received some Republican support, with 13 Republicans in the House and 19 in the Senate voting in favor of the bill.
“Congress, at the urging of the Biden administration, agreed in 2021 to spend $7.5 billion to build tens of thousands of electric vehicle chargers across the country, aiming to appease anxious drivers while tackling climate change,” says a report in Politico. “Two years later, the program has yet to install a single charger.”
There are currently only 180,000 EV charging stations in the whole of the United States. The infrastructure bill pledged to fund the construction of 320,000 more, to bring the nationwide total to half a million by the year 2030.
Despite Politico claiming that “consumer demand for electric vehicles is rising in the United States,” overwhelming evidence points to the opposite being true. Multiple major car dealers have pleaded with the Biden Administration to drop its EV mandates that would force all gasoline-fueled cars off the road, as the lack of demand for EVs from the American people will make it harder to adjust to such a dramatic shift in the short timespan that the Biden Administration has set for itself.
The lack of demand is supported by numerous reports confirming that EVs have more problems than gas-powered cars, with a Consumer Reports study determining that EVs are 80% more likely to have issues. Among other problems, consumers have pointed to the lack of charging stations, problems with the lithium-ion batteries, ill-fitting exterior and interior parts, and engine failures as the primary issues that EVs face on a regular basis.
