Members of Congress asked the White House Wednesday to declassify information on what they described as a “national security threat” that the public should know about, while also saying there was no reason to panic.
Media reports said the concern related to Russia placing nuclear armaments in space as a potential weapons against satellites, and not for dropping on Earth. But because it was still classified, that couldn’t be confirmed.
House Intelligence Committee Chairman Mike Turner called on the Biden administration to declassify the intelligence, while others warned that publicizing it in this veiled way was likely to spark panic that wasn’t warranted.
