Extreme weather in the Southwest and West could intensify the Smokehouse Creek Fire in Texas and may produce 10 feet of snow in California’s Sierra Nevada region.
The Smokehouse Creek Fire, Texas’ largest wildfire on record, is only 15% contained. It’s killed two people and consumed more than 1 million acres of homes, businesses, and livestock.
Light rain and snow have done little to slow the wildfire, and high winds are expected to fuel the flames.
In California, expected powerful winds and blizzard-like conditions have forced the closure of ski resorts and Yosemite National Park. Heavy snow accumulations, tree damage, and power outages are also expected.
