The Senate is poised to take final action on legislation hiking the rate of the state’s annual “coverage assessment” fee on hospitals by 23%, helping provide some financial relief for struggling rural and safety net hospitals. Tennessee Hospital Association officials say increasing the fee to 6% from 4.87% is expected to bring in federal matching dollars of just over $3 billion in the upcoming fiscal year.
