The Justice Department is suing the state of Iowa over its new illegal immigration law, along with the American Civil Liberties Union.
The law allows Iowa police officers to arrest illegal immigrants who have previously been deported or barred from entering the U.S.—which the DOJ says is unconstitutional and a violation of federal law.
Gov. Kim Reynolds is planning to stand by the law, which goes in to effect on July 1st: “Since President Biden refuses to enforce our nation’s immigration laws — threatening the safety of our citizens — Iowa will step in.”
The DOJ is asking the federal district court to block the law during the litigation.
