Things are changing extremely fast in the Democrat Party.
They know Joe Biden cannot continue as the nominee.
And one of their leaders just launched a bold attempt to replace him with Kamala Harris.
The fallout from Joe Biden’s ugly debate performance has been swift and dramatic.
Never before has a party’s presidential nominee, let alone an incumbent president, been removed from the ballot due to cognitive issues.
And one high-profile Democrat, former Ohio Congressman Tim Ryan, has made it clear something has to happen.
Ryan has stated since the debate that Harris should be the nominee due to Biden’s degenerative cognitive decline.
In an op-ed for Newsweek, Ryan wrote: “I ran for President in 2020. I was the first Presidential candidate to endorse Joe Biden in 2020. I love America. I love our Party. I love Joe Biden.”
“The Democratic Nominee in 2024 should be Kamala Harris.”
“Joe Biden’s debate performance was deeply troubling. But it isn’t just about a 90-minute debate and a terrible performance. This election needs to be about generational change—something about which I have been shouting for more than a year now.”
“[Biden] also promised to be a bridge President to the next generation. I liked that idea. I envisioned him defeating former President Donald Trump, stabilizing the country, and passing the torch to the next generation.”
“Regrettably, that bridge collapsed last week. Witnessing Joe Biden struggle was heartbreaking. And we must forge a new path forward.”
“After deep reflection over these past few days, I strongly believe that our best path forward is Kamala Harris.”
If Ryan and other Democrats are going to supplant Joe Biden as the party’s nominee, they’re going to have to take action themselves.
Biden is highly unlikely to voluntarily step down, and all the criticism he’s receiving is just making him double down.
The Democratic convention hasn’t happened yet, so Ryan and his allies could conceivably still make a move.
But they’ll have to be willing to execute a hostile takeover over the objections of Biden himself.
