A judge has rejected Alec Baldwin’s request to dismiss the involuntary manslaughter charge against him for the fatal shooting of Halyna Hutchins on the set of the film “Rust,” with the trial set to begin on July 9.
Baldwin, who was holding the prop gun that discharged and killed Hutchins, has consistently claimed he did not pull the trigger and is unaware of how live ammunition was present on set. The film’s armorer, Hannah Gutierrez-Reed, has already been sentenced to 18 months for the same charge.
Baldwin’s defense faced a setback when the firearm in question was destroyed during an FBI forensic test, which his lawyers argued should lead to his exoneration.
