The average cost of a Memorial Day weekend barbecue increased 10% this year as inflation has increased the prices of routine cookout items such as burgers, hot dogs, buns, and condiments.
Last year, the average price of a cookout was $27, but with meat prices up nearly 15% and condiments like relish as high as 50% more, the cost is now an estimated at $30.
Getting to the annual barbecue might be the cheapest part of the holiday. According to AAA, the national average for gas was $3.61 per gallon Friday, down $0.05 from one month ago but $0.05 higher from a year ago.
