President Biden set a single-day clemency record Thursday, commuting the sentences of 1,500 Americans in home confinement and pardoning 39 people, the White House said.
The commutations were given to people serving their sentences under home confinement due to complications from the COVID-19 pandemic. Biden said that those pardoned had demonstrated successful rehabilitation.
Biden also confirmed he would take additional steps in the coming weeks and continues to review clemency petitions. You can see a full list of commutations and pardons here.
The previous single-day clemency record was held by former President Barack Obama, who approved 330 requests shortly before leaving office in 2017.
