Florida has been replaced as the most popular state for residential move-ins as transplants grow more interested in the Carolinas and other Southern states. Here’s a list of the top 20 U.S. cities for move-ins in 2024.
Data collected by storage company PODS, indicated more people are moving to North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, Georgia, and Alabama. California had the greatest number of move-outs due to crime, taxes, and cost of living, according to the report.
In 2023, Florida claimed five of the top 10 move-in cities, but this year, only Ocala and Jacksonville remained in the top 10, and last year’s No. 3, Orlando, fell to No. 18.
According to PODS, severe weather risks, skyrocketing insurance premiums, lagging job growth, and immigration contributed to Florida’s decline.
