Chattanooga Named First National Park City

Chattanooga has become the first National Park City in North America, earning the international honor from the U.K.-based National Park City Foundation.

Mayor Tim Kelly said the title reflects Chattanooga’s long-standing commitment to outdoor spaces, stating the outdoors are the city’s “competitive advantage.”

Officials say the status will help guide future policies to make the city “greener, healthier, and wilder” while showcasing its love for outdoor living.

celebration is planned for April 19 at the Chattanooga Green, coinciding with Earth Week.
