A Washington state man survived a 400-foot fall this weekend that killed his three climbing partners in North Cascades National Park.
He then hiked through the night with head trauma and internal bleeding to reach his car, and drove 60 miles to find a payphone.
Anton Tselykh, 38, was the sole survivor after the group’s anchor failed during a descent near Early Winters Spires.
Officials say the old piton securing their ropes likely gave out as the group tried to outrun a storm. Authorities warned of the dangers posed by aging climbing gear and unpredictable mountain terrain.
