Colorado State Amendment Adds $233M to School Funds

With days left in the legislative session, lawmakers introduced a last-minute amendment to the school finance bill, setting aside $233 million for K-12 schools.

Approved by a Senate committee late Friday, the Kids Matter Fund would redirect tax revenue beginning in 2026-2027. The goal is to stabilize school funding and help implement a new formula amid mounting budget pressures.

Opponents warn that other state programs, such as Medicaid, could face cuts due to the diversion of existing dollars without creating new revenue.

Sponsors of the amendment expect it to clear a Senate vote before the session ends May 7. Adds $233M to School Funds
