Computer Science Now a Tennessee Graduation Requirement

Starting with the class of 2028, all Tennessee high schoolers must complete a computer science course to graduate, joining 11 other states with similar mandates.

The bipartisan 2022 law, which aims to prepare students for the workforce, is increasingly shaped by artificial intelligence and tech-driven industries.

Enrollment has nearly doubled since 2021, with over 60,000 middle and high school students now taking computer science courses statewide.

Business leaders, including CEOs from Microsoft, Uber, and LinkedIn, are pushing other states to follow Tennessee’s example.
